The foundation of the University of Debrecen will receive the most money from the government between 2022-2026

A bill addressing the funding issues of higher education has been published on the parliament’s website. At a previous government meeting, the government decided to regulate the funding of universities as well as sports incentives.

It is clear from the annex to the bill which foundation will receive how much funding, based on which higher education foundations can manage more than 1,800 billion forints in the next five years.

According to the summary, between 2022 and 2026, the Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, placed above the University of Debrecen and settled with Fidesz members, receives the most state support, which means exactly HUF 257.38 billion.

The Foundation for the University of Szeged is in second place, with HUF 229.15 billion coming in the next 5 years. The third-largest fund is the foundation placed above the University of Pécs, HUF 213.73 billion.

On Friday, Portfolio.hu also reported that, together with various developments, a large HUF 1,000 billion flows into Hungarian higher education, and the government is ready to fully accept (!) The HUF 2,700 billion development proposals of universities in the coming years, so the annual higher education expenditure as a proportion of GDP It would be 1.8%, which is more than double the EU average.

As of September this year, more than 70 percent of Hungarian students, 180 thousand university students, are studying in institutions maintained by the foundation.
