Some of the first flowering plants to appear in the melting snow from early spring, snowdrops develop a single iconic flower and two basal leaves each. The flowers have tepals instead of separate sepals and petals.
Snowdrops are considered symbols of hope, often depicted alongside the Virgin Mary in Christian tradition; legend has it that they were a consolation to Adam and Eve after their expulsion from Eden.
