The city purchased 450 thermometers, so there is one in every group room of all the kindergartens. Measuring temperatures has become an obligation in the nurseries of Debrecen as well.

As of 1 October 2020, it is compulsory to measure children’s and students’ temperature in public education institutions, that is, in schools and kindergartens. If a child’s or teacher’s body temperature is higher than 37.8 ℃, the measurement is to be repeated after fifteen minutes. If the result is the same, the person has to leave the institution.

At the press conference she held on 1 October in front of the kindergarten in Faragó Street, Vice Mayor Diána Széles talked about the meeting they had with kindergarten leaders in Debrecen to find the right solutions together that serve safety but do not frighten children. To achieve this goal, the municipality purchased as many thermometers as the number of group rooms in all the kindergartens of the city. This means that children’s temperature is measured within the building, in the group rooms, which is familiar and comfortable for the kids, by their own kindergarten teachers, and not at the entrance. Only four of the thirty-three kindergartens have requested to be exempted from this regulation, with regard to the number of children in their institutions. Diána Széles added that they requested every kindergarten teacher to wear face-masks, and as she said the protective equipment were provided by the municipality.
